Mechanical and Civil Engineering

Cecil and Sally Drinkward Postdoctoral Fellowship

Applications Due:
January 1, 2025

Apply

The Mechanical and Civil Engineering (MCE) Department at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for the Cecil and Sally Drinkward Postdoctoral Fellowship. The aim of the fellowship is to support innovative early-career scientists in making a significant, original research contribution and to provide them with opportunities for professional growth. The postdoctoral research scholars are expected to engage with the MCE and Caltech research community.

We are seeking candidates with research interests within the broad fields of Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. In particular, we encourage applicants who would complement and expand existing research strengths within the department. Applicants will be asked to identify a faculty mentor as part of the application process. Applicants are encouraged to establish contact with the relevant faculty members prior to application.

The duration of the postdoctoral fellowship is one year. Reappointment as a regular postdoctoral fellow for a second or additional years is contingent upon research progress and availability of funding. The fellow will receive an annual stipend of $80,000 and a research expense fund of $5,000.

Only those who received their Ph.D. between October 1, 2023 and December 1, 2025 and do not hold a tenure-track position are eligible to apply.

MCE is an inclusive community committed to bringing out the best in one another, providing equitable treatment and support to each member, and celebrating our common pursuit of scholarship as enhanced through our individual differences. Applications from individuals who contribute to our diversity are strongly encouraged.

To receive full consideration, applications must be received by 1 January 2025. To apply, candidates should submit the following materials.

  • Curriculum vitae.
  • One-page statement of research interests that, in part, reflects on the relation of the applicant’s interests to the ongoing research in MCE and identifies potential MCE faculty hosts.
  • One or two research papers or dissertation chapters related to the candidate’s major research theme.
  • Three confidential letters of reference submitted by the letter writers directly to the web portal.

If there are any questions about the application process, please contact [email protected].
