December 6, 2026

Apply

The Division of Engineering and Applied Science at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions. We seek highly qualified candidates committed to a career in teaching, mentoring and research excellence in the department of Electrical Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates at the Assistant Professor level; however, well-qualified applicants at the associate or full professor level may also be considered. Our department is a unique environment where innovative, interdisciplinary, and foundational research is conducted in a collegial atmosphere.

We are seeking candidates in the broad area of information systems, including decision systems, systems for science, distributed systems, sensory systems (such as speech and vision), signal processing, data science, data communications and storage, energy systems, control, robotics, artificial intelligence, networking, and human-in-the-loop systems. For tenure-track candidates, the initial appointment is contingent upon completion of the Ph.D. degree. It is also anticipated that a successful candidate would collaborate broadly with investigators both within and beyond the Engineering and Applied Science Division, as well as in centers at Caltech including, for example, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Center for Sensing to Intelligence, the Center for Autonomous Systems and Technologies, the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter, the Chen Institute for Neuroscience, the Merkin Institute, and the Resnick Sustainability Institute.

Applications should be submitted online. Reviewing of applications will begin on November 8, but full consideration will be given to all candidates who apply by December 6, 2026.

The appointment is contingent upon completion of the Ph.D. degree in an appropriate engineering or science related discipline.

Applications should include:

  1. A brief cover letter.
  2. Curriculum vitae.
  3. Relevant publications.
  4. A research statement describing research highlights and future goals and plans.
  5. Applicants should submit an education statement that addresses the applicant’s thoughts on classroom and laboratory instruction, mentorship of students and postdoctoral scholars, and ways to foster an inclusive environment for the development of scholars who come to Caltech with many different perspectives and experiences.

Salaries for professorial faculty at Caltech fall in the range of $125k - $400k.
