The Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (CMS) at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Teaching Assistant Professor in Computing and Mathematical Sciences. This is a long-term, career, non-tenure-track teaching position, with full-time teaching responsibilities (typically, no more than two courses per each of fall, winter, and spring with none required during summer). The start date for the position is August 1, 2025 and the initial term of appointment is three years. Typically, Teaching Assistant Professors have a second appointment for three years before standing for promotion. The CMS department at Caltech provides a unique environment for innovative and interdisciplinary research and teaching to be conducted in a collegial atmosphere. Teaching faculty at Caltech are full members of the department and are voting members of the faculty.

Successful applicants will have an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or a related field.

The responsibilities of Teaching Professors emphasize contributions to the teaching mission of the department. They include (but are not limited to) lecture preparation and delivery, development and implementation of research-based pedagogical techniques and teaching-related tools, and involvement with diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives. Interest and commitment to computer science research, teaching-related research, and other scholarly activities is a plus but is not required.

We are seeking candidates with the versatility to teach courses in multiple areas within the undergraduate Computer Science curriculum. Introductory and systems courses are of particular interest; however, we welcome applications from strong candidates with any area of teaching expertise.

There is no page limit, but you should make sure to highlight your largest successes in your teaching statement.
